Dial-a-fireman

need some fire action to go with your contribution?
call daniel, show 'n tell's very own fire-man:

"If anyone needs some spontaneous entertainment I'll arrive fully equipped, in an outfit to suit any occasion. And if its not dark enough for fire... I'll have some sunlight surprises on the side as well."

Ask Dom to do something Fucking Amazing

"We know the rules of show 'n tell and we've internalized them. We have no doubt that lots of people will be doing fucking amazing things creatively. Dom on the other hand is fucking amazing. She is the thing in itself, the immanentization of fucking amazing. Therefore saying that she will contribute creatively by being Fucking Amazing is no small thing or an insignificant addition to the program. Nor is it a creative act of lesser order than architecture or taking a corner perfectly. We just reckon she's Fucking Amazing and stuff flows from that assertion.

She's already on your blog wearing a T-shirt reading "Ek wil vir Jaco+Z-dog naai". That's fucking amazing, and I can assure you neither Zander or myself are deluded enough to have made that line up.

I trust you'll have no qualms with accepting her contribution.

Sincerely,
Jaco van Schalkwyk"

who says you can't play with your heritage?

"Adam and I are keen to organise 'heritage' games alongside the soccer match. Our ideas so far are 'jukskei' (which involves throwing horse shoes around wooden stakes), an olive pip spitting competition (a slightly more palatable version of 'bok-drolletjie-spoeg'), the stocking-around-the-legs jumping game that little girls play, etc...if you can think of any maatjies who are at a loose end and might want to help us with this, please send them our way!" - Taryn

so ive been thinking of making masks....all kinds of masks. funny masks, scary masks, ridiculous masks.......and stoopid silly props. . .then for a while i didnt know how we would use them on the weekend or where they would fit in.

chance to fame

here is a fantastic idea for you if you have not nailed your contribution down yet - highway to 30sec of fame..

"Hi everyone
‘Cause Gil can sadly not join us anymore, Buckfever is a bit decimated – ie it’s just me and Stephen – so we’re keen to jam with any of you. For those unfamiliar with us, we’re more or less a jamband anyway. Stephen plays drums, I play nothing, I talk. So I think Stephen can bring his drumkit unless someone else already is and doesn’t mind sharesies. We can do with bassist/ guitarist/ anyone. So consider us the jamband where you can come rock out for 30 minutes or so.
So – shall Stephen bring his drums then?
Or will someone else?
And who’s keen to join us?"

THINK TANK your 2009 contributions

this is the community hall in the village of Matjiesfontein
THIS year - we will be getting into the red bus or town tractor cross the rail tracks and take our "lawn activities" to the real matjies show 'n tell souls on the Saturday afternoon of the weekend..

the village is preparing a talent show for us.. think BREAKDANCING straight from the heart of the karoo! matjies kids presenting and show 'n telling us stuff our townies dont know about..
YOUR contribution can be based around town interactive stuff this year.. space hoppers here ? face painting ? mask making ? juggling lessons ? think PLAY Play and PLAY old kids young kids
.. there will also be some film/s screened later - big screen style in a little town of 200 plus inhabitants..

"Ons kan nie wag dat julle weer moet kom kuier nie, en die gemeentskap is nogal baie opgewonde dat hulle sal kan deel uit maak van julle aktiwiteite."

if you want to know more or have ideas re the community hall events please email the Matjiesfontein Team or me, Inge or leave your comments

Heads Up!

As you will have noticed, we have a new blog header.

This makes us very excited. It also lead us to an idea. We want to offer all you Matjies out there a chance to design one too, that we will use. Send your designs to Marc or the Matjies email address. Below is a mirror ball. It hates to be left out of the picture. Really.

Keep the horizontal format, the one used now is 2362 x 466...
Can't wait to see those designs!

It's all about G & T's and Bleeding Mary's.

So bring your own ingredients and we make them on the lawn, by the pool, at the tennis court, everywhere. Lazy Saturdays. Shaky Sundays. Nice.

don't be a tennis biscuit

So seriously people. there is a tennis court at Matjiesfontein. Last year someone dressed it up all pretty and held a tournament. We could do that again if anyone is keen to take control. Otherwise just arrange with a few sporting mates that you all bring rackets. And yer balls. Unless there is something completely new and improved that one could do with a tennis court??? Anyone?

Sit...

on a camping chair if you wish to bring one. It could be the best thing you brought. Other than your contribution.

Talking about sport activities.. the Tennis Court in Matjiesfontein is still open for a fun contribution.. here are some images from last years tennis championships.

The tennis court is available as HOT location for something to happen on this year.. let US know if you keen for it..

Show N' Tell With Mike( who-ever he is)

Your contribution can be something very simple and does not need to cost much.. just your imagination..

As you know Tania v S will be reading all weekend just like Mike
"I will be reading at the show n tell. I will need a comfortable place from
which to operate... bed, chaise longue or sinking couch...indoors or
outdoors & I am happy to be placed wherever my skills are needed."

Sunday, 06 July 2008

Hope you are brewing up your contributions.

Julia is the lady to contact regarding your plans. Email her with your questions.
