THINK TANK your 2009 contributions

this is the community hall in the village of Matjiesfontein
THIS year - we will be getting into the red bus or town tractor cross the rail tracks and take our "lawn activities" to the real matjies show 'n tell souls on the Saturday afternoon of the weekend..

the village is preparing a talent show for us.. think BREAKDANCING straight from the heart of the karoo! matjies kids presenting and show 'n telling us stuff our townies dont know about..
YOUR contribution can be based around town interactive stuff this year.. space hoppers here ? face painting ? mask making ? juggling lessons ? think PLAY Play and PLAY old kids young kids
.. there will also be some film/s screened later - big screen style in a little town of 200 plus inhabitants..

"Ons kan nie wag dat julle weer moet kom kuier nie, en die gemeentskap is nogal baie opgewonde dat hulle sal kan deel uit maak van julle aktiwiteite."

if you want to know more or have ideas re the community hall events please email the Matjiesfontein Team or me, Inge or leave your comments

to do and not to do

Check out the fantastic portrait studio 2007 for images of last years Show 'n Tell.

Here Steph is with local soccer hero Joseph, who works in the Lord Milner Hotel.

Matjiesfontein is in fact a declared heritage site and the antiques are REAL. We are very honored to have free range of this beautiful space. Thank you to the owner of the town, David Rawdon and all the friendly hotel staff!!!
Most of the people who work in the hotel were born in Matjiesfontein and have been working there most their lives.

Please show respect to the space - staff, hotel ghosts, hotel cat, antiques... ie.. Dont go crashing 10 people in a double room.

To find out more info about hotel (can I bring my dog? (no), does my room have a minibar? etc) call the Lord Milner Hotel directly: 023 5613011.
Jil only does the bookings for us and has never been to the hotel - she does not know where room 13 is.

Lord Milner Hotel

If you feel the hotel rates are a little steep for your pocket just remember you will be staying in an antique victoriana building. The hotel is absolute LUXURY to the max.. also remember that you will not be paying to see any of the fantastic contributions so consider your accommodation your expense for the whole Show 'n Tell experience..
BOOK SOON rooms going going.. g o n

Matjiesfontein - THE MOST HAUNTED TOWN

"The Lord Milner Hotel is reputed to be haunted by a group of cheerful ghosts. Laughter can be heard in empty rooms and the sound of billiards is heard when there is no one there.."

"The Logan family entertained visitors so often that they were always tolerant of the unseen residents. One particular unseen resident caused no trouble, except that he/she could not open doors and would rattle the door handles until some obliging member of the family would open it.
One day after Jennifer Buist's wedding, she was too engrossed in packing her gifts to let the ghost in, and the rattling reached an impatient crescendo. Eventually she threw the door open, saying "fine, come in if you must, don't make such a damn noise about it". She felt a puff of cold air rush past her and the ghost rattled its way through the window and was never heard or felt again."
"Another ghost is supposed to be a wounded British soldier with his arm in a sling and a bloody bandage around his head, who stands at the turn-off to the Memorial Cemetery. Travellers, thinking he is injured, stop to help and he promptly vanishes.."

Pimp your contribution

Lined on both sides with beautiful old Rolls Royce's, Royal Daimlers, Chevys, Dodges, Rovers, a Buick Eight and a Jaguar MK8, this is a great place for something special to happen. There are raised areas on either side for eager onlookers.

Calling all thespians, stand-up comedians, sit-down mimes and hand-stand cabaret artists! The old courthouse is begging to be turned into a theatre.
