SOUND KING

This is Gilad. He is sleeping now in preparation for Matjiesfontein. You probably know him because everyone does. He is the moody bassist from The Buckfever Underground . He is also the guy to speak to about sound and music equipment issues at this year's Show 'n Tell. Please email Gil if you have any queries about this.

Faces to Names

So we had a planning meeting last night.
Inge said she was upset because at the Track and Field Party we forgot to announce who the organising committee is, so people can put faces to names. We are an awfully approachable bunch (some claim to be shy) and love to talk and bounce ideas and stuff. So talk and get involved and tell us what you plan to do!

to do and not to do

Check out the fantastic portrait studio 2007 for images of last years Show 'n Tell.

Here Steph is with local soccer hero Joseph, who works in the Lord Milner Hotel.

Matjiesfontein is in fact a declared heritage site and the antiques are REAL. We are very honored to have free range of this beautiful space. Thank you to the owner of the town, David Rawdon and all the friendly hotel staff!!!
Most of the people who work in the hotel were born in Matjiesfontein and have been working there most their lives.

Please show respect to the space - staff, hotel ghosts, hotel cat, antiques... ie.. Dont go crashing 10 people in a double room.

To find out more info about hotel (can I bring my dog? (no), does my room have a minibar? etc) call the Lord Milner Hotel directly: 023 5613011.
Jil only does the bookings for us and has never been to the hotel - she does not know where room 13 is.

Lord Milner Hotel

If you feel the hotel rates are a little steep for your pocket just remember you will be staying in an antique victoriana building. The hotel is absolute LUXURY to the max.. also remember that you will not be paying to see any of the fantastic contributions so consider your accommodation your expense for the whole Show 'n Tell experience..
BOOK SOON rooms going going.. g o n

Show N' Tell With Mike( who-ever he is)

Your contribution can be something very simple and does not need to cost much.. just your imagination..

As you know Tania v S will be reading all weekend just like Mike
"I will be reading at the show n tell. I will need a comfortable place from
which to operate... bed, chaise longue or sinking couch...indoors or
outdoors & I am happy to be placed wherever my skills are needed."

Veld 'n Flora + Show 'n Tell = Happy Times!

On the very same night as our warm up event, one of our dedicated Matjies is having his Debut Photography Exhibition at the BHC school of Design at the Old Biscuit Mill. Greg Nicolson will be displaying and selling some of his fine botanical photography in order to raise funds for his big walk from the Namibia to Cape Town. The opening is at 18:30 so there is plenty of time to take in the exhibition before heading to town. The exhibition will still be on display the following morning while the Neighbourgoods market is open. Bring a friend and support a worthy cause and fellow Matjie!

To find out more about the exhibition or the walk, click here.

Show 'n Tell + Track 'n Field

The Matjiesfontein organising committee will be down at the Kimberley Hotel on Friday at the Track and Field Party. Come for a drink in the downstairs bar beforehand (9pm onwards) as this will be the perfect opportunity to discuss contributions and have any questions regarding accommodation answered. And if for some awful reason you can't make it this year... come anyway! We'll be your shoulder to cry on. Hope to see you all there!

the rumor is true

The Living Nomad Alex van Heerden will be nomadding to Show 'n Tell this year.

From his Studio in the middle of the desolated South African Landscape Alex will be coming to Matjiesfontein to preform and collaborate with the legendary Oom Kosies Band.

Alex writes is his memoirs: "During my prolonged stays in Europe, I have performed at many wonderful electronic music festivals, and have collaborated with many creative people. Nevertheless, there is a mixture of pettiness, narcissism and pragmatism there which eats away at my own delusions of grandeur, my magical thinking.
Having said this, my homeland of South Africa becomes frustratingly slow paced after a while.
I am therefore, a commited nomad. I live as a contemporary frontier rogue on the edges of the Karoo desert, or in absolute contrast, in the centre of Berlin."

In response to these contrasting feelings , using as " source material indigenous rural and urban sounds and rythms from the western cape " ( www.smallfunk.com ), the album Bushtech was born.
"Here the aesthetic is also one of minimalism: the vast desert landscapes; the fine, sparse 'fynbos' flora...also the general world view, one of timelessness and non-linearity.
We have a traditional rural dance music in the Cape called 'vastrap', and I wanted my music to be a kind of new 'vastrap', funky, rural, organic and techy at the same time...a dance music for the future Karoo!"

FOOD

The food at the Lord Milner Hotel is NOT gourmet.
If you are fussy please bring your own snacks along. There are NO shops in Matjiesfontein and the Hotel is the only place to eat.

"Located at the lobby level, over-looking the entrance of the Hotel, the dining room boasts the same historic ambiance found throughout Matjiesfontein. It is placed in a Victorian setting filled with period antiques, such as the antique clock - one of just three in the world. The unique wooden ceiling detail is supported centrally by a bronze sculpted pillar, a twin of the same pillar found at the Buckingham Palace." more on: www.matjiesfontein.com
Hotel regulations states that dress code for all dinners is SEMI-FORMAL, bring your vintage best.
