The Matjies Auction

Thank you SO much to everyone involved in last nights auction at the Albert Hall!
- thank you to Gur for getting us to open our wallets
- thanks to everyone who contributed with services and beautiful things to sell
- thanks to all the bidders and buyers

The money raised will cover the expenses for this weekend and next year's (long) weekend - not our own bar bills.

We aim to keep Show 'n Tell non-profit and non-commercial in all ways so it's so great to be able to fundraise in a way that involves all of us instead of charging an entry fee or selling tickets.

Matjies Show 'n Tell belongs to ALL of us
we are so overwhelmed by what clever, talented, special matjies we have! we LOVE you.

The Video Files: part 1

Here is the first S&T 2009 clip, uploaded as a test.

Show & Tell 2009: The Frown Family Karavan part 1 from Jeremy Collins on Vimeo.

From this test I learned that if it takes me three weeks to log, capture, colour grade & upload one clip, I'll only upload the last one in May 2309. Stay tuned.

Roll up! Roll up!

It's the post-matjies gathering and fundraising auction THIS Wednesday, 28th October, at the Albert Hall in Woodstock @ 7.30pm sharp sharp.

Bring your friends, bring your grandmother (and what's left of her estate) because this is no ordinary auction folks. We’ve got everything from cutting-edge designer jewellery to services you will never be offered by any self-respecting and upstanding citizen.

Don't forget to check out the list of what’s up for grabs, bring a bidding accessory (bust out that pink feather duster, don’t be shy) and some hard cash (don’t be shy).

Inge will also be showing the photos from the Darjeeling Limited Photo Studio and has agreed to put the images on disk and give them to any matjie who, in exchange, gives her a disk with photos from the weekend - that's the deal.

See you there!

Matjies Massive

"Ive been thinking and thinking about what my Matjies contribution should be next year and Ive decided (almost, not yet ready to fully comit ) to build an intercontinental rocket and declare war on a a far away country by firing it at them. Country still to be decided.
What you think? " - anon

"Hi
Ja been thinking about this and Im not so sure now ... logistically I think it could be very difficult especially if people have to travel out of the town to see the launch which would be necessary considering the likelyhood of the rock exploding instead of flying.. Ill sleep on it a while"

The Video Files

Hello. I'm the guy who filled 3 mini DV tapes with amazing footage. My work days are long & busy, so I'm logging & capturing the footage after hours and I'll upload the clips as soon as I can. Please be patient.

there IS life after show 'n tell

.... another matjies show 'n tell has come and gone and we are still basking in the afterglow of the weekend.THANK YOU! All the contributions this year were so great and we were bowled over by the amount of time and effort and love and magic each of you brought to show 'n tell. THANK YOU!

But the matjies magic doesn't have to end with the weekend. On Wednesday 28th October we will be having a post-matjies gathering at the Albert Hall to share photos, listen to Kristin's podcast of the event, swop stories, watch films clips and have a viewing of the Darjeeling Limited Photo Studio! Inge has agreed to put the images on disk and give them to any matjie who, in exchange, gives her a disk with photos from the weekend - that's the deal.

On the same night we will also be hosting a matjies auction to raise money for expenses like hiring sound equipment and paying the overworked bar staff overtime. More info on this to follow and if you have anything you would like to donate to the auction, please mail us. We will be auctioning everything from designer jewellery and clothes, to collector's items such as pages of Toast's lyrics still encrusted with sweat from his performance on the weekend.

The last order of business is that we have a few lost property items in our possession including:

1x small blue bra (who got naked and where are the photos, huh? huh?)
1x black raincoat (dave, the flasher perhaps.....)
kirsty/akimbo's garlands!
1 x standard issue, blue t-shirt
1x ladle and pot sans lid (arribiatta massive?)
1x michael van rooyen's medallion-laded jacket
1x book "by alexandra fuller called lets not go to the dogs tonight or something like that" (quote. unquote. found by greg nicolson)
1x silver necklace

If you picked up a pair of ray bans, they belong on Jess Harwood's lovely face and Julia Merrett lost a tiny deer/stag pendant (along with "most of my inhibitions"). Lastly, if anyone has James Siegel's stinky Merrels hand them over sealed in plastic at a designated location.

More later

The King of the Castle

We would like to say a BIG thank you to The Owner of Matjiesfontein, David Rawdon for letting us have this makietie in his town

David Rawdon purchased Matjiesfontein during the late 1960s, and, after detailed and loving restoration work, David re-opened Matjiesfontein in 1970.

S for Science S for Skew

Would you recognize the following tastes?

A sweaty granny climbing on a busy rapid transport system bus in johannesburg?

A moon dew drop sprinkled with the recently extinct Venezuelan fire fruit?

Raffa's cardboard placard from her 'lets get naked' strike tossed with the last Chinese Clinton ate?

Vermillion mixed with alpinian rocquefort cheese?

Elephantine nuisance touched with a hint of mint?

Well now is the time to find out. Tell us your most daring combinations and brave the results as two scientists explore the 10,000 taste buds inside your very own (often dirty) mouth. (Each of your taste buds contains 50-100 specialised receptor cells. Sticking out of every single one of these receptor cells is a tiny taste hair that checks out the food chemicals in your saliva. When these taste hairs are stimulated, they send nerve impulses to your brain. Each taste hair responds best to one of the five basic tastes.)

smokers are matjies too, matjies are smokers too

In compliance with the long arm of the law, the entire Lord Milner Hotel is now a SMOKE-FREE zone. This means no smoking anywhere - not in the bar or in your rooms. However, the hotel has kindly donated their London bus as a smoking facility for those cold Karoo nights.
