Camera Obscura Update!

I am happy to announce that my photographer friend Luke Kaplan will be joining me in the experiment to create a Camera Obscura this year. He has some experience in the art and so his participation is an exciting development! Watch out for an opportunity to view some of his own work as well.

What goes up, must come down.

"My contribution for Matjies will be juggling and maybe some fire/fire juggling. I'm also considering a juggling workshop to teach some people and also maybe a juggling-ball making workshop.... Basically I'll have a bag of juggling goodies and will be throwing things around all weekend..." - Greg Nicolson

Grand Duchess of Karoo Postal Service

"Word Bank will open on Friday: matjies can deposit their lyrical desires in the box at Reception. Throughout the weekend, make your own withdrawls of words to create a Poetry Gram at the "Post Office". Supplies to glue it on paper, decorate it with glitter or leaves are provided. Just write either the room number, recipient's name or who it is from (if you wish).

Drop it in the mailbox and on Sat and Sun at 1pm - - Grand Duchess of Karoo Postal service will deliver your poetrygrams around town. Fast and reliable!" - Athena and Chris

Photo Slideshow

Show 'n Tell would not be the same without the Photo Slideshow, which has been a central ingredient in the programme for 4 years now. The show will be presented at some point on Saturday morning in a cosy darkened room where you will be able to display your work, whether you are an amateur or pro, a photographer of wildlife or of fine art... all styles are welcome!

I will be putting the show together in some type of comprehensible format so all you need to do is get the images to me by the end of September. It's not THAT far away actually considering how time flies.

Please submit:
Between 10 - 30 images, although the more submissions we have the tighter space will become but 10 is guaranteed.
Please provide Jpegs at a decent size, like 72dpi, 1000pix on it's shortest side. Or even 150dpi.
Figure out a way of getting them to me, like phoning me (0765 093 765) or emailing me or stopping off at my house in Woodstock for a cup of real coffee and chat... oh and bringing a CD of pictures with you.
There is no theme, although you can obviously theme your own work. Each photographer's work will be separated and shown in the order you wish as long as you name them that way.
ANYONE can enter.

Inge will also be doing a slideshow in the Hotel Breakfast room Sunday morning, but of old vintage slide film using a real old projector. If you have any 35mm slides to contribute, email her. It's going to be a nostalgic little treat!

The Matjies Baaie-Skope

My contribution: the Matjies Baaie-Skope, a travelling cinema catering to all tastes. After the fun and games in the community hall on Saturday, I'll screen a few cartoons & a double feature; something for everyone.

On Sunday I'll set up in the hotel and screen another animation mini-festival, featuring selected local and international work. Submissions are welcome and I'll post further info about that a bit later.

the magic of matjies

the magic of matjies show 'n tell is that people discover...well, lets just say, a whole new side of themselves. ask simon and james, they'll tell you all about it.
