There will be in Indoor film screenings at Royal lounge.
The idea for this screen is a "Bring 'n screen" of your dvd's or whatnots.
The screen and projector will be available for use.

The official program ( coming soon) will reveal some sceduled screenings.. but otherwise.. the screen is yours for the taking..

The aim is for everyone to contribute in the old fashioned way: perform, play and present. You could sing a song, bake a cake, juggle grapefruit during breakfast, play chopsticks on the bar piano, dj, recite poetry, challenge a rabbit on the tennis court, exhibit you favourite things or tell a ghost story …

The fine print:
The “Show ’n’ tell” is not a commercial undertaking therefore all participants are responsible for costs, logistics and technical requirements for your contribution. There will be no added charge to see any of the shows.

NB!! NB!! Matjiesfontein has only one restaurant where you can dine, and it is a stylish establishment, which requires that you please dress semi-formally for all dinners. NB!! NB!!

NB!! NB!! On Sunday night do join in the heritage spirit of the town and dress in your grandest vintage style for a formal dinner and revelry. NB!! NB!!

Well-known for The Mystery Ghost Bus Tour that he runs in South Africa, Mark Rose-Christie , a serious paranormal researcher of long-standing, states in his own words that "Bulwer and Magaliesburg, along with Matjiesfontein, are South Africa's most haunted villages". Rose-Christie has researched many areas of South Africa and has a knack for investigating paranormal cases.

This is the transport museum - a nice big space for a contribution - imagine your audience sitting in the cars??? There are two rows of cars with a open space in the middle.

* Blankets and pillows for sitting outdoors on the grass for the Short-film festival (Saturday evening after dinner). We will be showing great films... make sure you dress warm enough so you can watch the massive screen under the stars

* For those keen to do the Yoga Class Monday morning - bring comfortable clothes and your yoga mat ( there will be some available if you dont have one)

* Extra drinks, snacks and own picnic’s, fruit, treats and whatever else you want to snack on – there are no shops in this town.

* CASH – there are NO ATM’s in Matjiesfontein

Greg Lomas and Julia Merrett will be creating a self-portrait studio within the Lord Milner Hotel to photograph guests, performers and any other inhabitants of Matiesfontein. The aim is to create a photographic documentary of the participants of the Show ‘n Tell festival. We'll be encouraging people to bring their own props, to dress up and express themselves as they wish. We will create one studio setting on the Saturday night and then hopefully another on the Sunday.

The idea is to exhibit the photos after the weekend, initially online but eventually in a gallery space.

Cabins in the Forest will be preforming live over the weekend in Matjiesfontein...!!!!!

Cabins in the forest are a Cape Town based acoustic duo that began writing and gigging together in mid 2006. The song writing is eclectic, making use of 12-string guitars, didgeridoo, slide & bottleneck guitar. It is somewhat of a folk, jazz, bluegrass, rock fusion. The sound is curious at times, refusing to push the usual buttons. The performance, whilst playful, is powerful, introspective, soulful and raw.

Uh, I can feel the train of depression arriving as I won't be able to come... also I am going to be in South Africa during that time (I moved to Germany in March) and could have easily entertained all of you with some wonderful german traditional dancing (not that pretty to look at but for sure a good laugh) but as I am coming for work - I will be working that weekend.
with smiles I think back to last years weekend of wonders, not to mention that I enjoyed belonging to the goup of "strangers" -
I have no doubt that you are going to have a wonderful time - please tease us "stupid not comers" with tons of pictures!

The video shows renowned porn actress Sylvia Saint singing to the lyrics of Stabat Mater. The original footage was obviously of Saint performing oral sex and later digitally manipulated to exclude any explicit sexual content. The title, incubus, suggests the mythical figure who has sex with a man in his sleep without his consent. " Guto.

Members of The Buckfever Underground have booked out a room and will stage a gig, or gigs, or parts of gigs throughout the weekend. The Matjies gig is part of their four-city tour of the Western Cape (Obs, Durbanville, Stellies, Matjies) to promote their brand-new album, The Buckfever Underground SAVES, which is currently flying off the shelves in Japan, because apparently Stephen Timm’s (the band’s drummer) name is an anagram or hologram or something with –gram for the popular Japanese phrase “this fish has an arse on its head”, which is their way of saying life rocks, let’s have a braai. Where were we? Oh yes, the band will play at Matjies, and there will be an open/ revolving door policy to all other musicians attending the weekend: bring your instrument and play/ sing/ mumble/ mime/ hum with us. The more the merrier. Albums will be on sale.

The Show'N Tell was a toy combination record player and filmstrip viewer manufactured by General Electric from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Question: So who was Logan ?

Answer : Back in 1883 the little backwater town, Matjiesfontein was discovered by Jimmy Logan a Scottish immigrant.

Logan arrived in South Africa on board a sailing vessel and with five pounds in his pocket took leave of the ship and made his way to Cape Town. He found a job as a porter earning 5 shillings a day on the station, showed outstanding ability and began his meteoric rise through the ranks.
At 20 he was appointed Cape Town stationmaster.
At 21 he married and was promoted by the railways to district superintendent of the stretch of line between Hex River and Prince Albert Road. He moved to Touwsriver which is about 55 kilometres from Matjiesfontein.
Just then diamonds were discovered in Kimberley and thousands of people were streaming through to the diamond fields.
There were no dining cars on trains. Logan saw the opportunity to provide food for travellers on the trains.
In 1883 to move his whole family to Matjiesfontein.
Once there he obtained the concession for the refreshment room on the Matjiesfontein station.

Over the next 10 years he developed Matjiesfontein from a wayside station into a Victorian health and holiday resort. Matjiesfontein attracted the rich and famous of yesteryear including the likes of Olive Schreiner and Cecil John Rhodes."
